About Me
September 25, 2008
I’m sure you already know, I’m Dallas J. Moore or Mr. Dallas J. Moore whichever you prefer. Thanks for taking a look at my “About Me” page.
I attended Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny from the Fall of 2002 to Spring of 2005 with a double major in Marketing and Management. I managed to pick up several specialist certificates along the way as well; Sales, Sales Management, Retailing and Supervision. In my second year while attending DMACC I ran for Management Chapter President and was elected. Apart from helping newer students get a feel for what classes would be like, their work load and what to expect over their stay at DMACC, I was involved in other areas as well. Each year in the Spring we would do a fund-raising event. We worked with The Heart Connection out of Des Moines the three years while I was there. My team and I decided to create a golf course that would run through our building. We got student services to sponsor it, giving us money, and were able to have an Ames business donate clubs and balls. The event was free and open to the public, donations were accepted as well. We contacted businesses in Ankney to join us and create a golf hole with their products. We had Finish Line, Target, Nextel, The Heart Connection and more. The first year alone between the Management, Marketing and Fashion chapters we raided almost $15,000 dollars. I just spoke with one of my chapter advisors, and found that the same event just hit it’s fifth year in a row.
While I attended DMACC, I also took an internship with 105.1 Channel Q/1430 KASI radio in Ames. On top of duties that ranged from filing paperwork, selling radio time and writing ad copy, I also helped with the many promotions. When I started, my first project was to organize and find willing businesses in Minneapolis, Kansas City, Omaha and Des Moines. We were looking for hotels and fun places to go, and things to do for the summer. I spent the first two months making phone calls, sending proposals and writing ad copy. Once the promotion was done, it was then my job to make sure the winners received their prize package. Along with the summer promotion, I was also able to go to many concerts and live events.
When I was finishing up at DMACC I made some connections with several bands/artists in the Des Moines area. Several of these bands/artists were looking for someone to help them book shows, manage, market, and create and build their brand name. I spent about four years working on and off with several bands/artists. At their shows, I would take photos and video and later put them up on their websites/myspace page. I was also able to network with other young professionals in the area to secure logo design, album artwork and promotional materials. Several of the artists have gone on, are now signed to indie lables and are currently touring. I became very heavily involved with social media about five years ago. I used myspace to market, promote and brand myself as a producer, marketer and promotion consultant for live entertainment.
In the past year I have used more channels to brand and market myself as a consultant. My focus now is more towards small and medium businesses who are looking to listen, engage, respond and create with their customers/clients. I have continued to take and share both photos and videos. I maintain this blog, help maintain a blog with Dosovo, a marketing and web strategy confulting firm in Ankney, the #amestweetup website (talking about events in Ames), and contribute my thoughts and ideas to a podcast. I use Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin as a way to network, build my brand and connect with others looking for help with social media.
