Pete,

Agreed. It's very hard to have quality relationships with people once the numbers get almost "out of control." Like you said and mentioned, what does 10K Twitter followers do for you anyway? Not that I wouldn't like to have 10K Twitter followers, but things like that are missing the point. Build a brand, give before you get, be helpful, focus on community, teach, learn, grow and get your heart in the right direction. Not only will Twitter followers follow, people will want to engage with you and seek out relationships.

Thanks for adding your thoughts to the blog post! You going to make it out Friday morning for #CIB? Hope to catch up with you again very soon. Have a great rest of your Wednesday.

So very true, I see the adds all the time about "Getting 10k Twitter followers." Its crazy, I have enough trouble following the people I want to with all the spam, etc. Why would I want 10k people added to the mix?

Great post. It is definitely about quality over quantity. On a network like Twitter, it is really easy to accumulate a large number of followers. However, if they are not engaging with you, clicking on your links, or retweeting what you have to say, then what is the point? The total number means nothing. It is definitely all about forming real relationships between real people.

Vincent,

Thank you for sharing your insight. I believe as our goals and objectives become clear to us in life you grow. I also believe that if you are on a path, but not the right one life will help you find your way. I think at times we all have our own plans, but forget of others. We need people to believe in, look up to, mentor us, teach us, listen to us, be our friends and our family. We need to set aside time to forget about what's important to us. We need to think and grow as people, together.

I've learned a lot the last couple years and I like sharing my stories. I also think that social media is a wonderful and great thing. It has turned into a HUGE passion for me. I think some people use it one way and others another way. I try very hard to remember to be as selfless as possible. It takes time and patience to do so too. I do have my own objectives and goals, but I won't get where I want to go by being a jerk to people. Everyone has X- Ray vision of sorts. They can tell when your not being real or have hidden plans that does not help them in the long run. I want a win- win for everyone. It can't be that hard. We just need to work together.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Also, thank you very much for the kind words. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Incredible post.

What I really like about what you said, AND what compels me to sway in the direction of your idea here, is that you really give a good example of the quanity vs quality paradigm through a personal experience. This matters. You basicallly used your experience as a "prototype" to help build your idea and thus establishing a strong case. I lean with you, I would much rather have 100 people who give a darn about what I am talking about or trying to evangelize, vs 10,000 people who simply fall into the static of things.

I feel you are dead on. Time will tell and will teach us the proper perspective of this space, as more people ascertain goals and objectives pre-set (as you mentioned you did) in the launch of their campaigns, thrust.

More people need to read this...

Thanks for the insight!!

That last question is tough. Perception is reality, in some cases. For me, I guess it would depend on who's perception. I would attribute more value to my wife's perception of me than to my garbage man's perception of me.

From a business perspective, I would certainly engage a lot more filters on what I was to share in a social network than I would in a purely personal network.

This is a great dialogue, and certainly gets the brain cells moving.
